Wu Guang

吴广

Chen Sheng's co-rebel

He rose up with Chen Sheng at Daze Township and was killed by his own officer — the first martyr of the anti-Qin rebellion, whose death was more honorable than that of his comrade.

Wu Guang was a comrade of Chen Sheng at Daze Village. When Chen Sheng rallied the nine hundred convicts to revolt, Wu Guang stood by his side. Wu Guang was the more martial of the two—having served as a soldier, he understood how to command men. He secured early victories for Chen Sheng's fledgling rebellion. Yet Chen Sheng grew suspicious and ordered Wu Guang's execution. Wu Guang was struck down by his own officer. Chen Sheng then lost the rebellion and was slain by his own charioteer. Wu Guang died first—and in some ways, with greater honor. Nevertheless, the uprising they together ignited brought down the Qin Empire.
