蔺相如
Zhao's Greatest Diplomat
A Zhao diplomat who twice humiliated the mighty Qin, yet yielded all honor to his rival Lian Po, thereby saving his state.
Minister Zhao was dispatched as an envoy to the state of Qin, bearing the Heshibi jade disc. The King of Qin demanded it in exchange for fifteen cities. Lin Xiangru feigned an attempt to destroy it at the Gong River, thereby securing its safe return to Zhao. He was subsequently appointed to a high ministerial position. At the Warrants of the Marsh, he confronted Lian Po. Lin Xiangru yielded all credit to Lian Po for the sake of court unity. Lian Po then requested that Lin Xiangru regard him as an elder brother. Their mutual respect became a celebrated legend in Chinese history.
