Wu Guang

Chen Sheng's Co-Rebel

He rose with Chen Sheng at Dazexia and was killed by his own officer — the first martyr of the anti‑Qin rebellion whose death was more honorable than his partner's.

Wu Guang was the companion of Chen Sheng at Dazexia. When Chen Sheng called the 900 convicts to rebellion, Wu Guang stood beside him. Wu Guang was the more military one — he had been a soldier and knew how to lead men. He won early battles for Chen Sheng's nascent rebellion. But Chen Sheng grew suspicious and ordered Wu Guang killed. Wu Guang was struck down by his own officer. Chen Sheng then lost the rebellion and was killed by his own chariot driver. Wu Guang died first — and in some ways more honorably. The uprising they started together, however, destroyed the Qin Empire.
