Lian Po

Wei State General

A grizzled Wei general who fought Chu and Qin — dismissed for his pride, a classic tale of military glory undone by ego.

Senior Wei general during the Warring States period. He fought in multiple campaigns against Chu and Qin, most notably at the Battle of Yique where both armies suffered heavy losses. Regarded as one of the greatest living generals, Lian Po was passed over for promotion in favor of a younger officer. In a dramatic display of vigor, he ate ten jin of carrots and meat while wearing full armor to prove his strength. Disillusioned by the slight, he eventually left Wei and served the state of Chu until his death, becoming a symbol of both martial prowess and the pitfalls of pride.
