The old strategist who saw Liu Bang's danger from the start — and died on the road after Xiang Yu drove him away in suspicion.
Called Additional Father (亚父) by Xiang Yu. His chief strategist who recognized Liu Bang as the greatest threat. Mastermind of the Hongmen Banquet plot to kill Liu Bang. When plot failed he blamed Xiang Bo. Later Xiang Yu suspected him of secret dealings with Liu Bang. Fan Zeng left in anger and died of frustration on the road. His departure marked the turning point of Xiang Yu's downfall.
